Steady Support

The crown jewel of Kupat Ha'ir's activities is the steady, monthly support it provides for needy families. Entire families have been spared the degradation of hunger, the slow and torturous suffocation of abject poverty – thanks to Kupat Ha'ir's monthly stipends. Many organizations do wonderful work, from distributing glasses to orphans to sending ready meals. The huge difference between all these organizations and Kupat Ha'ir's support is the amount of money involved. A new pair of glasses cost NIS 150. A month's worth of hot meals costs about NIS 800. Kupat Ha'ir supports families to the tune of NIS 1500-2000 a month – for months on end. When there are no parents, when parents are preoccupied with a dreaded disease in the family, or when parents are incapable of supporting a family, Kupat Ha'ir is the only option to rescue the household from slow, torturous destruction. More than 2,000 families receive monthly stipends of NIS 2,000 per month. That comes to four million shekels a month!

True stories
Darkness and Light The Z family numbers four children, three of whom suffer from serious disabilities. One child is hearing disabled, one has a serious heart condition and the third is so hyperactive he literally turns the house upside-down every day. The parents are busy over their heads running to doctors, caretakers and tutors. The healthy child is the most wretched one in the family… he, too, requires basic conditions to survive. The father can barely hold down a part-time job, while the mother is busy 25 hours a day just attempting to run the home. Thousands of shekels are paid each month for medication, diagnoses, tests and doctors. All these are crucial, critical. The father's salary, combined with stipends from the National Insurance, is paid out the day it comes Month after month, there is no bread or milk at home, no chicken or eggs, no money to take a bus anywhere. Kupat Ha'ir's two thousand shekels make it possible to live again. They are the difference between existence and doom, between darkness and light.
