Six days after the birth of his 13th child and a few weeks before the marriage of his oldest son.
Harav Dan Daniel zt"l Was killed in a tragic accident at the age of 46

A Night of Terror
It began with a strange phone call in which someone asked if Abba was home and was told that he was not. At this point, Ima was really worried. Her husband wasn't answering his cell phone, and she didn't know what to think.
The caller on the other end of the line asked whether it was possible that he had indeed traveled outside of Jerusalem. She didn't know what to say, but her heart filled with foreboding. "There's been an accident, and we're trying to verify the identity of the driver," explained the caller, who identified himself as a traffic cop.
"Is the driver badly hurt? Can't he speak?"

The policeman murmured something unintelligible, and her heart plummeted.

A short while earlier, her husband's car had burst into flames on an isolated road with no one around. The motor had caught fire and the walls of the car had begun to burn. No one was there to extend a helping hand, to break a window to enable him to breathe. No one had seen this tzaddik ascend to Shamayim amidst the flames, leaving behind a charred metal car frame.

Fear Broadcast Live

The children were all awake. It was impossible to conceal the fear, the sense of panic. Abba would not be coming home. The police were pretty sure he had been the driver of the burned car; the remnants of the car frame matched the model of the beat-up jalopy he drove. But it couldn't be, it just couldn't… Suddenly, young children whose world had always been rosy and happy were hearing words like ashes, DNA, and dental x-rays. What for? Ribono shel Olam, what for? To identify what was once Abba...

And the tiny baby in the preemie ward, and the wedding three weeks away, and the other children at home, and the widow whose world came crashing down on her in the most horrific way possible…
No one ever dreamed that the melody that was Rav Daniel's life would be cut short by such a terrible tragedy. No one had the slightest inkling that in such a short while, still before the wedding, the family would be struck by tragedy, reeling with indescribable pain and anguish. No one could have imagined such a horrific scenario.
What will they do now?

The tiny preemie still has no idea of the tragedy that has befallen him. A baby whose bris was postponed for a while, because in Shamayim they already knew which name was reserved for him. The wedding in three weeks… will it be held in time or postponed until after the shloshim? There is still so much to prepare, so much had been pushed off until after the baby's birth… who will run these errands now? The mother, whose world is shattered? The little children, who cannot digest what happened? The chassan, a true ben Torah and the only child at home mature enough to grasp the magnitude of the tragedy?
What Can Help?
Neither shock nor sympathy will be of any help to them. The tears surely springing to the eyes of any
Jewish person reading this – won't buy them milk
in the grocery store, or a hat or suit for the chassan. Commiseration won't pay for an someone to learn with the children or for a babysitter to stay with the little ones while the mother hurries off to the preemie ward to be with the baby.Your compassion won't provide drinks and a tray of cake to serve to at the bittersweet simchah of the baby's bris.
What is needed now is action, deeds. We need contributions, we need everyone to step forward with practical assistance. Within a few hours, you will have forgotten about this tragedy you read about, because your mind won't be able to handle dreadfulness of this magnitude. But they will live it twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, for the rest of their lives. They will never be able to run away from it, to escape the awfulness. Never…
Financial aid is the only thing we can provide that will truly be of assistance. That is what will change the situation from utter devastation, may Hashem have mercy, to one that is possible to survive with great heavenly mercy. Now we need your help, your support, your action.
Here we have children who need your contribution in order not to wither away, Rachmana litzlan.
Please give them whatever you can!
These are lives, precious neshamos!
